The Story Behind Lilian’s Room
Lilian’s Room exists thanks to the generosity of a local resident named Lilian, who kindly left a legacy gift to Wave Active.
In her later years, Lilian lived in a nearby care home and regularly took part in our Wave Active Health outreach sessions. She embraced these visits with enthusiasm and joy, and it was clear that staying active meant a great deal to her. To honour her warmth and positivity, we have used her legacy to create a dedicated facility that will support active ageing, rehabilitation, and those living with illness or long-term health conditions.
“Lilian was a warm and cheerful lady who enjoyed the simple pleasure of daily life. She was often described as calm, happy and appreciative, leaving behind a gentle and positive presence that those around her will always remember.”
Thank you, Lilian
What is Lilian’s Room?
Lilian’s Room features a suite of assisted, accessible equipment that supports controlled movement and inclusive training. This low-impact exercise is a brilliant form of gentle exercise, especially if you’re recovering from injury, illness or surgery, returning to activity after a period of inactivity, or looking for a simple way to improve overall fitness.
Lilian’s Room also incorporates specialist neuro-rehab equipment including “Stroll”, a revolutionary all-in-one digital therapeutic software solution which uses augmented reality (AR) glasses to support mobility, balance, cognitive engagement and functional rehabilitation.
Together, these tools, along with other equipment form Lilian’s Room, an inclusive space designed to support older adults and people living with long-term health conditions through safe, adaptive exercise and meaningful social connection.
What sort of equipment is in Lilian’s Room?
Lilian’s room is home to a range of equipment, which, as a circuit, will provide a full body workout in 30-40 minutes.
Provides a combination of stretching and strengthening, helping to improve shoulder and hip flexibility and strengthen abdominal and back muscles.
A combination of a pushing down action on the legs and a rowing action on the arms, building strength in all four limbs.
Moves both the legs and the arms while improving aerobic fitness.
Increases mobility in the hip and shoulder joints, while strengthening thighs, chest and shoulders.
A combination of a lateral pulldown and shoulder press, with a leg stepping action, the Seated Climber improves posture and cardiovascular fitness.
Helps to improve coordination while exercising the major muscle groups.
This machine focuses on the upper arm and thigh muscles, aiming to make reaching activities and pushing up from a chair easier.
Rotation of the trunk is one of the first movements to decline as part of the ageing process, leading to back pain, stiffness and a loss of balance. This machine addresses this to reverse or minimise these changes.
This machine gently assists alternate hip extension, providing a great exercise for the hips, glutes and hamstrings.
Targeting the oblique muscles with a gently twisting motion, this machine strengthens the abdomen and back.

What Users Say
“People get fitter, people are happy. It’s a wonderful place, it’s wonderful for your health and wellbeing and for socialising, it’s brought myself out to meet people and has made me quite fit. As you get older you slow down, you can’t do certain things. Since I’ve been here I revert back to what | used to be…I’m getting older, but in actual fact my fitness is getting better.”
Nancy
“I have trouble walking, I can’t walk very well because of arthritis in my hip and my knees. It is improving slowly. It is brilliant, this equipment, it can do it for you, if you let it, but you know you’ve got to do your bit as well! Because it’s power assisted it makes it easier and you know how to handle it. was suffering from depression, | still am now and again but I look forward to it.”
